Self-Pay Health Insurance Update for 2026
San Juan County residents — including those on Lopez Island — who purchase their health insurance through the Washington HealthPlanFinder Marketplace will have only one individual insurance carrier available in 2026: Ambetter. This change significantly limits local options for care and coverage, particularly for those who rely on specialized services not included in Ambetter’s current network.
The Lopez Island Hospital District is working closely with the Orcas Island Health Care District, San Juan County Public Hospital District #1, and local government officials and agencies to bring urgent attention to the serious challenges this creates for our community. Together, we are advocating for expanded coverage options and stronger support for island residents who may be affected by this change.
